Benchmark’s Chris Carman wins Project Director of the Year
Benchmark Project’s Managing Director, Chris Carman, has been recognised as Western Australian Project Director of the Year at the 2009 Project Management Achievement Awards.

Chris was acknowledged by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) for his role in LandCorp’s iconic $60 million Mandurah Ocean Marina.

With more than 30 years experience in land development and major civil engineering projects, Chris led a project team through a detailed process including feasibility, planning, design, construction and marketing.

The ambitious project included the creation of a strategic 500-boat harbour, together with surrounding land development.

The judges also acknowledged innovations such as the Venetian-style canals in the Mandurah Ocean Marina’s south harbour, which significantly changed the project’s economic, social and environmental incomes.

In winning the award Chris thanked LandCorp for the opportunity to work on such a challenging and diverse project, as well as the many consultants and contractors who helped bring a long-held community vision to reality.

“Benchmark Projects is passionate about design excellence, best-practice project management and achieving the unachievable,” he said.

“This project allowed us to live and breathe these values, and proves that with big picture thinking, Western Australia’s waterfront developments are up there with the best in the world.”

Chris will now represent Western Australia at the National Project Management Awards to be announced at the AIPM annual conference in Adelaide on Tuesday 13 October 2009
