Name: Jim Scott
Position: Specialist Marina Consultant
Industry experience:
Jim Scott previously managed the Maritime Facility at Hillarys Boat Harbour for ten years between 1986 and 1996.
During that time, Jim was responsible for establishment of policies pertaining to promotions, signage, pen conditions, emergency evacuation, risk assessment, staff guidelines, security operations, business plan and structure plan.
He was also responsible for setting of annual budgets (revenue and expenditure), monitoring same and preparing monthly reports. Jim prepared proposals for capital works and strategies for cost recovery, setting of pen and other lease fees for HBH and monitoring the market place with consideration for the acceptance of the facility and the economic climate.
Following his time at HBH, Jim was engaged by the City of Mandurah as Marina Manager for the Mandurah Ocean Marina and tasked with establishing it as a leading tourist attraction and to ensure the project was self supporting from an operational aspect.
In the early construction stages it was of the utmost importance that a strong framework for partnering with the State Government developers (LandCorp) be established through their project management company, Benchmark Projects. With all parties involved in having the same focus for a successful outcome the Mandurah Ocean Marina obtained National and International recognition for its design and its commitment to the environment and to the community.
Assisting in achieving the National award for Australia’s Marina of the Year in 2004 has been one of Jim’s major career highlights. Jim had significant input into the success now being enjoyed by Mandurah Ocean Marina.
Some of the services controlled at both Hillarys Boat Harbour and Mandurah Ocean Marina included security, maintenance, cleaning, consultants, landscaping, electrical and plumbing.
Jim now owns and operates Scott’s Marina Management Services and acts as a consultant to Benchmark Projects on marina design and operations. Jim and Chris Carman have now successfully cooperated on a range of marina projects for over ten years. |
