Scope of Work
Benchmark Projects has coordinated every aspect of this project from the detailed feasibility and environmental planning through to the all important community consultation and - on approval - construction.
The proposed site has been designated for a commercial pier development for over a decade and an approved seabed lease is in place that allows for a commercial/retail pier development with limited private berthing and charter boat operation.
Challenges Rockingham is a tight-knit coastal community with many families having called the Rockingham Beach their own for many years. This makes community consultation and ongoing communication critical.
Access to the Wanliss Street Car Park and northern end of Bell Park must be maintained.
Weather conditions and coastal erosion are issues of significance to be addressed as part of the plan.
Innovations and Solutions
- A breakwater protecting the marina from storm activity associated with north-westerly winds and the passage of winter cold fronts. The breakwater will also provide a public fishing platform.
- Finger jetties and state-of-the-art floating pontoons.
- The location itself and the open-pile pier and boat pen components of the marina design will optimise flushing of the marina water and minimise impact on the natural coastal process.
Outcomes
The Port Rockingham development will deliver a high quality marina and recreation area with triple bottom line outcomes. The project is based on responsible integrated approach to the existing urban framework and responsible and manageable environmental impact.
Port Rockingham will also help in addressing Western Australia’s chronic moorings shortage. |
